On Monday 1st March, Think Beyond swapped the boardroom for the classroom. Our founder, Mercè Cozens, joined Gary Stanley, Secondary MFL teacher, to speak about the importance of languages and the opportunities that studying another language can bring both professionally and personally. Mercè revelled in inspiring the next generation at Oasis Academy MediaCityUK
Fluent in English, Spanish and Catalan, Mercè spoke openly about the benefits of being multilingual.
Founder discusses languages and internationalism
“I am so grateful to have been welcomed to the Oasis Academy MediaCityUK” Mercè said.
“We have clients here at Think Beyond that want to talk to us because we speak multiple languages and we understand multiple cultures. For example, launching a new product in Europe (multiple languages) or delivering a keynote speech in Catalan for one of the universities in Barcelona. I also previously ran a global marketing and demand generation team.”
“I speak Spanish, Catalan and English fluently – and also I studied Latin, Italian and German. Finally, I also understand French and Portuguese because they are Latin-based languages.”
“I hope that I can inspire the future generation to view language skills as important and transferable outside of the classroom. Listening skills and speaking skills serve to enrich communication, helping to understand ourselves and others better.”
“My biggest piece of advice is to listen and learn – this knowledge will only help you improve yourself and broaden your opportunities”, she added.
